Rust red in colour with a unique smoky flavour, Pimentón de La Vera, or smoked paprika, is a versatile seasoning used in countless Spanish recipes. Made from freshly harvested peppers smoked for 15 days over encina oak wood fires, this pimentón is slightly sweet tasting with an intense smoked flavour. It is this intense smoky flavour that sets it apart. La Dalia is the original brand of Pimentón de La Vera, and they still use stone mills to create the finest, most flavourful smoked paprika in Spain. Olé!

The peppers used to produce La Dalia Pimentón de la Vera are hand-harvested each year in early autumn. Just after harvesting, the peppers are sent to wooden smokehouses filled with the smoke of encina oak wood fires. For 15 days, the peppers are dried in this intense smoke. Once dried, La Dalia grinds the peppers on traditional granite millstones - resulting in a silky, rust-red paprika that is both deeply flavoured and smoky.
Founded in 1913, La Dalia was the first company to produce the famous smoked paprika of La Vera. For generations, this family owned company has produced the finest quality pimentón using traditional production methods. This Pimentón de La Vera is Denominación de Origen (D.O.) - assuring its quality and authenticity.

The reason I chose this product was for the tins. I love tins, any size, shape, colour etc. What a surprise to find that I even liked the spice. On chicken it is wonderful and really brings out the flavour.

Not only do I use pimentón in paella, I tend to add it to most dishes I prepare lately. In varying amounts it adds lovely colour tone and a distinct smokey complexity. I was once hooked on coriander, to my husband’s grief, and now I alternate between pimentón and coriander ☺
I especially love a great Spanish soup which uses pimento as an essential ingredient – look it up Sopa de Ajo. One of the simplest soups to make, yet utterly soothing.

Love the taste, love the aroma, love the tin... I've used this over pizza, pasta bakes, potato bake, fries, in sauces... it just always works! However, don't be too heavy-handed with this stuff, it's really potent ;)

I have been hunting for smoked paprika for AGES and haven't been able to find any in the shops. I live in Hermanus, which is a small town so short of going into Cape Town, I had no hope of finding any. Then I saw it on Yuppiechef and bought a tin. What a lovely spice it is! As soon as you open the flap, you can smell the rich, smoked aroma and when you use it in a recipe, it imparts a unique and wonderful flavour to your food. Just be careful, though. It's quite strong so rather add too little at first and then a bit more if necessary, rather than adding too much in one go and spoiling your dish. LOVELY STUFF (and the tin is pretty too!). Paprika is not paprika until you have tried La Dalia. Both the Sweet Smoked and the Hot Smoked are a staple in my kitchen.
After opening the tin I realised I had to throw out all the paprika I had bought from elsewhere.
This paprika is rich in aroma and so full of flavour. It will revolutionise your cooking!

I use both the hot and sweet paprika. This is the real paprika, not the stuff that is labelled paprika and could be any chilli. It gives a huge depth of flavour to dishes. Oh, and because it says sweet, it's not for puddings! It's just not hot, just flavoursome.

I use paprika all the time. It is unquestionably my favourite spice. It is the ideal "chilli" flavour, with little or no heat. The only thing better than paprika, is smoked paprika. I'm an absolute sucker for smoky flavours.
This is the first time I'm using the La Dalia Smoked Paprika, and it is simply delicious. While it is pricier than locally sourced paprikas, the flavours are so much stronger, that I find I use half (or less) as much as I do of the cheaper varieties.
