In defence of an awesome grinder
Item reviewed:
Review by Phaedon G. on 14 January 2014, 5 days after purchase
I was surprised to see so many negative reviews of this grinder. I've had one for about a year and think it's brilliant. So much so that I've just bought a second one from Yuppiechef to use for decaf beans.
The nature of the complaints from others seem to be around one thing: the grinder no longer working. I too had some hiccups in the first couple of months until I realised what was preventing the grinder from working was simply that the opening between the grinder and plastic container needs a quick brush off after each use. Since starting to do that (a 5 second job), I have never had any issues over the 12 months I've used this grinder almost ever day.
The bottom line is this grinder is fantastic value for money. The grind settings allow for everything from espresso to press with great consistency. The cups dial also produces a predictable amount of coffee (5g per cup for people who are measuring precisely) meaning that you don't have to weigh every time.
If you don't want to break the bank, I'd highly recommend this grinder! Read more

DON"T BUY THIS GRINDER!

I must agree, we have the exact same Krups Burr Grinder and it has just stopped working after not even a year. Terribly disappointing. I wouldn't even give it one star, but I had no choice? The review would not go through without giving the product a star.

These other reviews are terrible! Krups Burr grinder has been rated by the Pros in the coffee mags as THE grinder for any home enthusiast! I have had one for the last year or so and without it I don't know what I'd do! Always a perfect grind!

Buy another brand

I used the my Krups burr grinder five times before it gave up the ghost and no amount of cleaning or component re-seating could get it working again.
Rather spend a little bit more and buy a different brand.

Breaks just a month after warranty lapses!!
Item reviewed:
Review by Verena H. on 3 August 2013
This grinder works well, but breaks fast as well. Mine lasted just a year...(out of warranty) when the ''ON" button didn't work anymore. Fortunately my husband managed to improvise on it and now it has been working for ages. At that price I think that there are many better options and I would certainly not recommend this grinder.

Consistent, even grind

Review by Zach V. on 8 August 2013, 11 days after purchase
So far it's been a very good machine for the price. I get an even grind at all levels of coarseness and it doesn't take up too much space. Hope it holds up for a while.

Krupps grinder - works very well

Bought the grinder in July and it works really well!
A friend owns one too and finds it works well - she only wishes it had a courser grind setting.

Best home/domestic grinder
Item reviewed:
Review by Corne V. on 2 March 2016
My grinder is 3 years old and is still going strong. The burr can be adjusted over a wide range. The fine setting is sufficient for espresso and coarseness on course is more than required for any type of coffee.
It was a good buy.

Last about 6 years
Item reviewed:
Review by Albertus V. on 22 September 2018
I have owned 2 of these. They both lasted about 6 years each. The first one the motor burned out. The second one the contact for the start button broke and the button fell off. I am buying my third now this coming Tuesday at the Yuppiechef in the mall. One day when I am "a big boy" (aka rich) I will buy something better, but anything cheaper than this that I bought broke within 6 months. Also, it stands up to a lot of abuse, I only clean it whenever it jams. Read more

Works well, but...
Item reviewed:
Review by Abdul O. on 20 October 2019, 16 days after purchase
Grinds nice and consistently, much finer (and more suitable for espresso) than what I was able to achieve with the Dualit grinder which is double the price. I like that it has a wide range of settings as well. Negative is that it creates a lot of static which is a bit messy. It is also a bit more of an effort to switch between different coffee beans (compared to our previous grinder) as we like to have decaf at night/normal in the mornings. Overall, a decent purchase at the price point. Read more

Not as impressed as I’d hoped
Item reviewed:
Review by Keegan S. on 17 November 2019
The Krups grinder is well built, aesthetically pleasing and has good reviews. I bought this grinder to move away from a Hario conical burr hand grinder to use mainly on a little Russell Hobbs espresso machine, as an experienced barista and much research I thought this would be a good addition.
Unfortunately, on the finest setting I found that there was major inconsistency of the grind size. I then used a kitchen sieve and strainer to separate the different grinds, yielding three majorly different sizes from this finest setting.
At this finest setting:
Course - similar to course salt (pour over brewing)
Medium - slightly too course for espresso
Fine - powdered (Turkish coffee brewing)
In conclusion, I was unable to extract a good espresso shot and also feel that when using a pour-over method the fine powdered grinds will clog up the paper instantly. Read more

Super happy with my grinder
Item reviewed:
Review by Carryn J. on 14 January 2014, over 6 months months after purchase
I have had this grinder for just under a year and use it every day. The best thing is that with the flip of a lever you can adjust the grind setting (I like Moka pot coffee, my husband likes filter) as well as the dosage (double espresso for 1 person or pot for 8 - whatever you need).
The only negative is that it is rather loud, but since I am generally trying to wake up when using it, this isn't a real problem :) Read more

Better than a blade grinder but would go manual
Item reviewed:
Review by Phaedon G. on 30 June 2014, 3 months after purchase
Having spent a bit more time with this grinder, I still believe it's reasonable value for money but you can get much better value for money by going manual.
It's definitely better than a blade grinder and not much more expensive so if convenience is factor number 1, it can be a way to go on a limited budget.
In terms of other reviews saying that it breaks too quickly, I've seen one go for 2-3 years without missing a beat. It's just about cleaning out the left over grinds and particles regularly.
However, for the same money, there are many manual grinders that will give a much more consistent grind. This one has a limited range and isn't very consistent. Read more

Very well priced grinder
Item reviewed:
Review by Margot S. on 27 March 2016, over 1 year after purchase
We used to have a manual grinder, so this was a big upgrade for us, and such great value for money. We like to make coffee in various ways so to have the grind setting is wonderful. The grinder wants to have every piece in perfect position in order to turn on, which I think is quite clever so that you don't end up with coffee all over the counter. Keep the the container clean using the brush, and you shouldn't have any problems. Read more

Our old Krups Burr Coffee Grinder broke. We are quite demanding on our grinders, it seems. I went straight on to Yuppiechef to price and order a new one. We got exactly what we were looking for. We know the product well (and only wish it was slightly longer lasting than 2 years) but are very happy with it.

Review by Mandy R. on 28 June 2016, 12 days after purchase
This is the best budget conscious burr grinder on the market. It makes the perfect amount of coffee (if you set it for 10 it makes the perfect amount for 10 on my filter coffee machine). It grinds the coffee completely evenly and takes such a short amount of time to do so. Very happy with it!

Mine too has slowly stopped working.
Item reviewed:
Review by Paul V. on 3 February 2017
After a few years of flawless daily use, my grinder is doing the same as most others in these reviews - the automatic feature no longer works and I need to repeatedly press the button to make it grind. The motor also sounds weak and seems to get stuck a bit.
I've always cleaned my machine religiously so it's not that.
I gave it three stars because while it works it's great and it is well priced. So if you don't grind much coffee and don't want to spend too much then it should serve you well for a good few years. Read more

A touch noisy, well actually loud!
Item reviewed:
Review by Jacques M. on 17 March 2017
Two reasons it didn't get the fifth star: 1) It is noisy. Not going to do a grind while the significant other is snoozing/napping. 2) Would like better access to the burr grinder and exhaust for cleaning. Having got the downside out of the way, the good stuff follows: set it for two cups and it doses 14g always! Great for your doppio espresso! Grind is consistent. What more for the price!? Well worth the money. Read more

Neat little appliance
Item reviewed:
Review by Beth F. on 17 July 2017, 1 month after purchase
This little burr grinder is at a very good price for a burr grinder. It is a neat unit and operates well, except it does have a few little idiosyncrasies particularly related to cleaning the grounds bin area - all parts of this bin opening need to be free of grounds to ensure operation, so its necessary to use the little brush after each use all around the grounds bin.
Also sometimes the beans get a little stuck in the grinder itself so it makes the noises but doesn't grind. I've found that it dislodges when you empty the top bean bin and shake it a little. Thanks to other reviewers comments that I've been able to make it work. Read more

Product is great. Works well. Others have commented about static in the ground coffee container and I have experienced this, however it has no effect on the finished product except you just need to tap the container if there is some coffee grounds still left on the sides. Don't get clever like me and think you need the finest grind for your machine, the finest grind is too fine. I found 3 clicks from the finest works best. Read more

3 years and STILL going strong
Item reviewed:
Review by Stephen P. on 4 December 2018
I received this for Christmas 3 years ago as I was and still am a coffee fanatic! I have used this on a regular basis ever since with every coffee bean imaginable. I found the perfect coarseness for my moka pot and I haven't changed that setting in years. It's about midway so I'm not sure if using super fine/course grinds would give people issues. Also, I'm lazy, I grind 12 cups worth of beans or more at a go and this grinder has never given me a problem once. probably put close on 100kg of beans through this unit. On the rare occasion beans settle in the hopper in such a way due to physics that they don't automatically drop into the grinders, much the same as what happens in salt grinders, I apply the same solution as I do with salt... pick the thing up and give it a little shake and then it whirrs away again happily. It is literally so good that my 5-year-old does all my grinding for me... still working on him to make the coffee as well. Read more

An affordable, basic coffee grinder
Item reviewed:
Review by James H. on 1 October 2020
The Krups Burr Grinder is a basic grinder that is just about the most affordable entrance into the world of burr coffee grinders. It is easy to use, has a fairly wide range of grind settings, and does look the part. It does struggle with grind consistency and is not good if you are wanting a grinder for French Press.

Happy with my purchase. Works well for what I need it to work for - which is making filter coffee. Have heard that its not ideal for espresso although havent tried myself.
The downsides are that it can be a bit of a mission to clean and it is pretty loud.

New version - old favourite
Item reviewed:
Review by Elize V. on 31 March 2022, 17 days after purchase
Reviewed 2 weeks after receiving it.
We had a previous version which lasted 10+years? The buttons did break after the warranty period, but my husband wangled it and it lasted 10+ years being used every single day at least once or twice, making coffee for BIG mugs throughout the day. We work from home — we used it A LOT.
This new model/version is sturdier than the one we had. The bean 'bowl' at the top is higher and narrower. The grind settings are finer than the previous model, and works like a charm. The finest setting is definitely good enough for espresso — my husband gave it a test run. We use it mainly for drip filter, grinding a lot of beans for the day (once or twice a day, every day), keeping the grounds in an airtight container.
The manual explains how to set the grinder knob for cleaning the burr section. There will always be a little bit of static in the collection container in front, but I find using the brush to clean out both the "mouth" where the ground up coffee comes out, and wiping out the container when we pour the ground up coffee into an airtight container, helps to limit static.
This version seems a lot sturdier than the previous one. Hope it lasts as long. Read more

Keep it clean.
When filling bean tends to slip into the top slot and the machine won't work. The top must be all the way in and a bean will prevent the proper release of the safety button.
See that receiving cup is properly in or the machine will not work.
I also thought it was broken until I turned it upside down and beans fell out and until I noticed the reception cup is not fully in. Read more

For the price, it's the best coffee grinder by far. It is superb, with a wide range of grind size settings, and a fairly large capacity.
However, note that with proper care, it will last an absolute maximum of two years. My last three lasted about 5 years in total.

Reliable coffee grinder.
Item reviewed:
Review by Dominic G. on 5 January 2023
I've just ordered my 3rd Krups grinder in 15 years. I grind 45 grams of coffee every day with this grinder and I've had very few problems. The previous two grinders lasted 6 to 8 years with daily use.
Those with issues with this grinder need to check two things:
1. Coffee grinds blocking the switch where the grind container goes into the machine
2. A single coffee bean in the gap between the body of the grinder and the bean hopper cover can stop the hopper lid from activating the switch and the grinder will not turn on.
Both of my previous grinders were retired after the switch in the front broke off and left me having to use a piece of wood to activate the switch which is not ideal.
Replacement burrs are easy to find. The grinder is relatively easy to clean.
The grind is consistent but sometimes clumps. Perfect for filter grind, french press and Aeropress. The grind settings are NOT step-less and I wouldn't recommend this grinder if you want fine control over an espresso grind.
Also do not adjust the grind from coarse to fine while the grinder is off. You must run the grinder while adjusting the grind.
I would highly recommend this workhorse of a grinder. There is no better burr grinder on the market at this price point.

Works well until it breaks
Item reviewed:
Review by Theo V. on 31 May 2014
I've owned this grinder for a couple of years and it worked well. My only minor gripe was that the grind collector is plastic and not glass, which causes static and which in turn makes the coffee grind sick to the sides of the collector.
However, as with many other reviewers, my grinder has stopped working recently. It still grinds, but only for a half a second or so. It's not possible to hold the button in to keep grinding, which means pressing the button at least 20 times to get single moka pot's worth. *Very* annoying.
For 700 bucks, this grinder is very expensive for just one or two years' operation. Krups obviously has a poor product here. I'd rather go for a mechanical burr grinder next time and get some exercise with my morning cup :) Read more

My grinder is a few years old now and when it works, it works beautifully, but mine broke just after the end of the warranty period. I bought my mom the same one and she hasn't had one problem with it (yet), but mine is now in for repairs for the second time. The automatic grind function stops working (PC board failure), so you have to keep pulsing the grinder until you think you have enough ground coffee. Can't really say if I recommend this or not, as I know of a few people who love theirs. Read more

We use this grinder in our Test Kitchen at Yuppiechef HQ and I have one at home too. It grinds coffee beans reliable and consistently. The varying degrees of the grinder make it ideal for grinding for French press, moka pot or the Aeropress. It also shuts off automatically once you have selected your desired quantity keeping waste to a bare minimum.

I've been using this grinder daily for over a year at home, in my office, and I even brought it along on holiday.
It's easy to use and gives a good, consistent grind that you'd otherwise only get for a much higher price.
The one big downside is it's very, very loud, especially as it grinds the last beans in the hopper. You won't want to use this at 5am while everyone is asleep.

Krups Coffee Bean Burr Grinder
Item reviewed:
Review by Anonymous on 4 August 2020, 1 month after purchase
We bought this grinder a few months ago and are experiencing problems with 'escaping' of ground coffee. After experimenting, I have found that the hole which feeds the ground coffee into the plastic holder needs to be cleaned after each use. What also helps is to hold the plastic container firmly in place, which is not ideal — the idea being that you put the beans to be milled and you should be free to do something else!!
I see from the reviews above that other people have experienced similar problems. I am in two minds whether I should return to Yuppiechef so that it can be sent to the agent for assessment or simply accept that it is a flaw in the design of the machine??!! I would not recommend it to a friend, but if someone asked my opinion, I would explain my reservations. My husband chose the grinder but neither of us read the reviews — a mistake which won't be repeated in the future. Read more
