You don't get a good grip on the vegetables that you are slicing resulting in a lot of wasted and leftover veg. In retrospect, I wish I rather spent a bit more money to purchase a better quality mandoline.

I was really hesitant to buy this because the price was too good, I reasoned that because it was so much cheaper than the rest it couldn't be as good. BUT I took the leap [because YuppieChef has never let me down] and I'm SUPER glad I bought it. Its easy to use, easy to clean, easy to store and I love it - it works beautifully!

This is the worst product

This is the worst product I've ever bought for my kitchen. Don't bother.

There is no Julien option, it thinly grates the carrots which I can do with my grator. I am returning it, not impressed.

The design of the "slider" is really not good, in my opinion. Hand protectors for mincers, biltong carvers, etc. all work on the same principle but this spiked "grip" is really not well thought out. You can slice, holding the vegetable in your hand but be very cautious when you get to the end of the piece you're slicing. A part of my finger can attest to the dangerous and bad industrial design that went into this. Read more

I was somewhat sceptical of such a well priced mandoline purchase, as traditionally, they are notoriously expensive. I've had cheapies shatter on first attempts previously, but not this one! It sliced through sweet potatoes with minimal effort to make oven crisps. The blade stays steady during slicing & the container upon which the blade is mounted is a very useful feature. An excellent purchase.

Quick and easy is actually an understatement. I enjoy it so much. It's precise and clean. Will never go without it again. Easy to wash, just a word of caution! That blade is superior sharp which is great for veggies but not for fingers!😀

When I saw these on sale at Yuppiechef, I had to get one, actually I had to get two! I bought one for me and one for my mother. I had seen mandolines used for all sorts of things in cooking shows and decided I wanted one. Usually they are rather expensive but this Humble & Mash product is very well made, works extremely well and also is a great price! Get one!

Rösti making is now much easier! The mandolin slices thin julienne strips of veg easily and with only a minimal amount of leftover veg. It’s easy to adjust the slice thickness and the mandolin is easy to wash.

I bought this fab product a few weeks back and can honestly say it is fantastic! I used to dread slicing a quantity of onions, now they are done in minutes with not a tear in sight. I love that is comes with the "box" to catch the slices & as a storage container for the extras. Because the blade is so incredibly sharp DO use the guard - my husband proved its sharpness by slicing his thumb, and no, he was not using it! Very much recommended. Read more

The only concern is the lever thingy holder which is made from Perspex and if the veggie is chopped up the lever holder comes into contact with the blades and pieces of Perspex will become embedded in the chopped veggies.

Alas this happened to me. I am now more cautious when slicing onion, tomato and cucumbers......

A useful addition to the kitchen, but very dangerous. I sliced my finger badly, as the hand guard moved. The hand guard should be bigger and more rigid, to allow larger items to be sliced, so that they don't have to be cut into smaller pieces.

Does the job, but I have doubts about its durability- it’s made from a very rigid plastic. The lid only fits loosely and easily slips off the bottom part so it’s easy to drop. Blades are very sharp.

This little workhorse is not a replacement for a full-size mandoline. However, if you’re looking for something to speed your everyday veg prep without risking your fingers or spending too much, it’s perfect. I love the fact that the box catches the veggies, and it works like a charm!

The part that grips the fruit/veg, the 'claws' stick out so far that it scrapes/hits the blade as you slice after simply a few seconds, causing you to have to stop and also waste about 1 cm of the fruit or veg!!

Packaging - five stars, my cat decided the box is her new toy. Just read the instructions before leading your cat to believe that the best present ever has just arrived.
Product smartness and user-friendliness - excellent, five stars! The slicing container even has rubber footsies to prevent slipping. The blade is adjustable and even lockable, to prevent nasty washing-up incidents, the gripping tool is sturdy and strong.
Design and appearance - what a sexy little kitchen tool! Sleek, fancy and amazing.
The veggie slicing - epic. Seven stars; adjustable blades and spiral/julienne blades allow you to put ole Gordon Ramsay to shame.
The tip of my finger after a first use (without reading the instructions).... Non-existent 😁 sharper than the tongue of a scorned lover (or for My Kitchen Rules fans, sharper than Romel's critiques)

When the item you're slicing is down to about 1cm thick the plastic/perspex lip on the slicer connects with the holder and chips off into the sliced food. When julienning something like a courgette, for example, that's pretty useless. Very disappointing product - don't bother.

This is the best mandolin/chopper I've ever used. It's quick and easy to use. No mess, your chopped stuff lands in the container. It's very easy to clean. You can lock the blades between uses. There is nothing not to like about this product.

The mandolin cuts beautiful strips with its additional attachment. I love the colour. The container keeps everything really tidy. The hand-protector holds the veg firmly. It is, unfortunately, impossible to clean if any bits get caught in between the steel pegs and the holder part...

Purchase a few weeks ago and got to use it today. Very disappointed in that it slices and juliennes very thin 1-3mm in thickness for use in salads. No where near the french fries style and thickness of 4-6mm if you need ultra thick slices and strips great. As a bonus the build quality, is awesome — just not the desired outcome I expected.

This product performs exactly how it's advertised. Nice simple design, easy to use. Nice to also not have loads of attachments that are hard to keep track of — just normal slices and one for chips. Read the instructions and then follow those instructions! This is a low tech smart kitchen gadget — was super easy to thinly slice onions for pickled onions. Took under a minute.

For the price, this is seriously excellent. I had an expensive mandoline before and, in my opinion, this one is almost as good for a way lower price. The slicer is super sharp and it's easy to use. Just be careful you don't cut yourself.

Excellent value for money. Really sharp. Yes, the last piece of your potato doesn't get sliced on the thinnest setting. It's not a dealbreaker though. Get one.

I used this mandoline for the first time to slice onions. I couldn't believe how quickly I got through an onion; I thought the mandoline was faulty when it seemed to jam, only to realise when I turned the holder over that it was because I had finished slicing the onion! Just keep your fingers away from the blade. It's phenomenally sharp and I cut my fingers when I tried to push a stray slice of onion under the blade into the container. Read more

I've only used the slicing attachment but it works nicely for slicing vegetables thinly, such as potatos for a grating or onions for braaibroodjies. Much quicker than doing it by hand and also good consistency and thinness. I like that it's dishwasher safe. For R299 this is a bargain.

The first and only time I used this mandolin, i cut my thumb so terribly that i had to be rushed to the hospital due to the the severity of the cut. it went straight into the bin! i am an experienced cook and am extremely careful so this to me is a dangerous appliance to have. i would not reccomend this to anyone and better safety measures should be added.
