Fermentation Crock Pot, 2L

We’ve made hot sauce, sauerkraut and all sorts. Makes a lot more than you think. Need another one I love it so much - fermentation station here we come! Super easy to clean as well.

Small but perfect fermenting crock pot.

The crock is attractive and the lip, once filled with water, keeps the odour of the fermenting vegetables inside, which means that you can leave it on the shelf doing its thing without your whole house smelling of fermenting vegetables.

If, however, your pickling requirements run only to about 1 L of finished product per month, as mine do, I feel that the frustration of battling to get the product out of the crock past the shoulder and through the rather small opening, is not worth putting up with.

If you want to ferment a greater volume of vegetables, I would recommend acquiring a much larger crock. For the volume that this one can produce, I believe that a straight-sided glass jar (available on this wonderful site) works much better.

At the beginning of the process, before the lid goes on firmly, I keep it in a large plastic container to keep the odour under control. Keep that plastic container for this purpose only.

So, if you are in the market for a very slightly used crock, I hope we bump into one another. I will be the one wearing a disappointed expression and a pickle on my lapel. Read more

I loved this at first but it is so difficult to clean under the rim and mould forms very quickly on the outside gutter.
