Aris The Original SimmerMat Heat Diffuser

I bought this item on recommendation of the assistant in Le Creuset outlet. The diffuser should be used to distribute the heat for non-stick pots and pans particularly to prolong their life. This product works well and does what it's supposed to. Well pleased.

I am new to gas stoves, but have been wondering about how to simmer and cook at low temperatures, so when I heard about the simmer mat, I decided that it was definitely worth a try. I used it to simmer butternut soup last night to allow the butternut to cook through and it worked fantastically. I reduced the heat to very low and the soup continued to simmer along beautifully. Even after I turned off the gas, the soup stayed hot for a very long time and no burnt butternut in sight!
I was initially intimidated by the warnings on the packaging to do this and not do that, but it was really straightforward to use and worked fantastically! I'm looking forward to using it a lot more now! Read more

Had this product for a while but didn't bother to review until now. It warped after one month. Not good. and then pots start to slide off.
the SMEG ceramic heat diffusion stone is excellent. See if it fits on your stove first.

I recently changed to a gas stove from a solid plate electric stove. Some of my ceramic pots could therefore not be used on the gas stove. I recently made a meal in my ceramic Tagine on my gas stove using this simmer mat. I was very impressed. Every gas stove owner should invest in one of these mats.

I have a glass top stove and no matter how careful I am, my 'pap' always burns, I have used this item once so far and it works beautifully, lovely slow cooked pap, and NO burned bottom, pot thus easier to clean as well.

Very solid, heavy and performs well. Unfortunately it has started to warp despite following cautionary instructions such as only use on the lowest gas flame, always use with a pot on top etc... so it would not work well on a glass electric hob eventually. However, I only use it on a gas hob so it's not really a big problem.

Unfortunately the mat warped was excellent whilst it was straight and definitely helps with sauces and slow cooking items. Only about 8 months old then warped on gas stove.

When used on a gas stove[with bubbles facing upwards] there is seriously limited contact between bubbles and stove plate. The pot then becomes seriously slippery and slides spontaneously off the stove plate [especially if the pot has a handle which takes the centre of the plate off balance]. If I ever get to use it again I would lock my children out of the kitchen.

I really like this, but it warped and now the pots I put on it are not stable, it still distributes the heat which is what I wanted, but I am disappointed that it warped.

I bought this SimmerMat in order to put my Bialetti coffee maker on my gas plates. But the knobs on the mat make the small base of the Bialetti stand skew. So, if you want to use this for a small base pot or coffee maker on a gas stove, it doesn’t really work for that.

Slow down my gas hob burners fantastically!! I was never able to really "simmer" before I bought them!

Don't be deceived by how thin this diffuser is. At first I thought it may buckle on my gas hob, but I was wrong. It works extremely well and what's more, it has a small hole in it so it can be hung up. That way it doesn't end up buried in a drawer and forgotten.

When I first saw the advert for the SimmerMat, I was a little dubious about it. However, after a friend recommended it very highly, I bought it and now would not do without it. I have used it when cooking curry, and it kept the pot at the most gentle of simmers - not generally possible on gas. It also works like a charm to slowly fry onions - they caramelise, without burning.

I have been searching everywhere for a heat diffuser since we bought a gas stove. A lot of retailers didn't even know that such a thing existed. I was so excited when I received it and started using it the very same day. I was pleasantly surprised! I made a meat stew that required long and slow cooking and it worked great. After the meat and onions were browned, I added the stock, put the simmermat under the pot and reduced the heat to low. The dish simmered for almost 2 hours and I was able to forget about it. I am really pleased with the simmermat. I use it with the points down on my ceramic top stove which does not simmer to my satisfaction even on the lowest heat. By putting the new simmermat in place after the initial browning etc. I can safely leave the pot to quietly simmer without fear of burning.

This product is the answer to my slow-cooking prayers. I can now cook on my gas stove at VERY low temperatures and have just made the best caramelized sautéed onions ever. Just 2 things to remember: 1. turn the heat down after you put the diffuser plate on; and 2. it stays very warm for a very long time so do not touch it with bare hands or you'll jump! This mat works incredibly well - can't do without it. Make sure to read the instructions on how to use it. (Only place it over the flame once you want to turn your food down to simmer etc.) Its sturdy, black metal makes it look like it came with the stove as well, and it truly is an essential for any gas stove owner - simmers like a treat!

I bought the simmer mat for my Mom (for Mother's Day) who prefers to cook on gas. I have watched her struggle with the lower temperatures on the gas stove top. There are dishes that would stick on the bottom of her pot before, which now are cooked with ease and no stick. She says it's the best :). It has changed her life. It's a must if you have a gas stove.

I could never simmer a soup, curry, casserole on my ceramic top stove. No matter how low I turned down the heat, it always bubbled furiously and never simmered. We were even thinking of buying a new stove with gas on top and electric oven below and then I read a review of this simmer mat. It really does work and enables me to simmer anything. I bought this heat diffuser especially to use on the induction cooker as it is impossible to simmer anything on the appliance I have. It works awesomely.

I tested it on my gas cooker and works especially well, I was able to adjust right across the simmer range.

I was very keen to try this item, as I struggle to get gentle, low heat from my gas hob. When I first used the Heat Diffuser, I detected very very slow heat coming through, for about 5-10 mins and I was on the point of giving up, thinking it was forming too strong a heat barrier...but I persisted. SO GLAD I did!!

It is so great to be able to simmer my food on my gas stove without it burning and sticking. You can never get the temperature low enough, but this gadget solves that problem completely, effortlessly and is so easy to use and clean

I purchased this with our camper van in mind. It is fitted with a single gas stove which has 3 settings, the lowest of which is too high for simmering. Previous simmer mats used besides burnt handles, do not diffuse the heat in such a controlled manner. Exactly what I wanted.

Since getting a gas stove stews, rice, soups and sauces went out of the rotation, seeing as everything burnt to the bottom of the pot. I was pretty skeptical about the SimmerMat at first, thinking I'm still going to need new, expensive pots before the problem was solved. But that wasn't the case at all. It works really well! I bought the SimmerMat Heat diffuser a few weeks ago and it's fantastic. I use it on my gas stove and previously I would have battled with getting the heat low enough to simmer so I could make the food that needs to cook slowly. I previously would have put a pot in a pot just to stop food from burning. This mat is amazing & it really does work.

This product is great value for money and a great find. It works well on a gas stove and truly lives up to its description ensuring even heat distribution and no burning effect. I was concerned about longer cooking times since the flame setting needs to be really low, but this was not the case at all. It retains heat well and normal cooking times involved.

Ever since I acquired a gas hob, I had been imagining a product that could reduce the gas flame to a super slow simmer and this is it. Brilliant for soups and stews, nothing sticks to the bottom of the pots anymore. No need to keep checking and stirring the pot, simply use the smallest gas ring, turn the gas down as far as possible, add the simmer plate and place the pot on top... and relax.

I recently purchased a ceramic tagine, which would not fit into my convection oven... and having recently also purchased the Aris simmer mat, thought, what can I lose the Tagine can only crack once... well after 2 hours on low-on gas-on the hob - a perfect result. This really is an amazing product, I have also used it to simmer my soups, as I left it unattended for 2 hours - forgot due to work - soup never stuck to the bottom at all. Works perfectly. I can cook a curry with lots of rich gravy as I do not have to keep adding water. Also prevents burning of food. I first saw the SimmerMat at the Home and Garden Show but waited to buy it on Yuppiechef. It's much cheaper on Yuppiechef.

I have a gas stove and to decrease the heat in the pot I used to move my pots from one burner to the other. Even the smallest burner sometimes burnt my rice and pap. But, since I have the simmer plate, my barley has come out beautifully every time. Can't believe I waited so long to buy this simmer plate!

This product does exactly what it is meant to do. I have used it more than once and it works really well! It has helped overcome the issue of simmering slowly on a gas hob. I have cooked curries, stews and boiled a gammon using this item. All great successes!

I've had this SimmerMat for 2 months now, and find I am turning to it more and more. This is a wonderful find for a cook like me. I make a lot of dishes that require long and slow simmering on the stovetop (I do not possess a slow cooker, nor electric pressure cooker). If you're like me, having other projects on the go whilst your dish is simmering, you're going to need this! This mat has saved my food from burning in the pot. (To be doubly careful, I admit to also using a clock timer, but I don't always hear it going off). I dare say that if one does leave food to dry out in the pot for too long, it might burn, although I have yet to experience that. The price is worth avoiding the drudge of scrubbing burnt pots. Since I wrote the first review Yuppiechef has replaced the product - excellent service from them. I waited a while before writing this just to be sure the warping didn't happen again - it has not! Having both gas and induction, I use it a great deal - to reduce the flame on gas and to be able to use non-induction friendly pots on our induction plate (note you an only do this on a low setting) and it works brilliantly! This product definitely assists with simmering on a gas hob. Whereas before we found setting the flow of gas to be low enough to simmer, but high enough to heat the entire base of the pot quite a challenge; this product does that perfectly. No more fiddling with the flow, just put it on low and we carry on with other tasks.

The biggest issue with cooking with gas is that it's nearly impossible to slow cook things like sauces. There's always a ring of more intense heat where the flame hits.

This lets me walk away while things cook slowly without worrying about it. I can now really develop those flavours.

It's nice to get the benefits of a slow cooker without having to invest in an actual slow cooker. Read more

This is the best thing since chocolate if you own a gas hob. No matter how low the setting, gas is still too fast/hot for simmering, so I ended up using my electric hob for a slow simmer. (I had my gas technician set the lowest setting on my gas hob even lower than the lowest setting). This simmer mat will simmer your food gentler than the 'low' setting on your electric hob. After many cheap "supermarket" simmer plates whose handles eventually fall off and end up looking pretty prehistoric I thought "Aha! This is it! "

Using exclusively the gas hob option it just wastes gas. Too much heat escapes to maintain even a gentle simmer, even with the gas wide open.

I have always found it difficult to simmer a pot on a gas hob due to the flame being concentrated in the center of the pot. But now, what a pleasure, this product is absolutely amazing with the gas turned down to the minimum you will get a very gentle simmer. I wish I had bought one years ago.
