‐ Collapse this SectionThis innovative knife sharpener is perfect for left and right-handed use and has two levels for sharpening knives, depending on how much cutting performance has been lost. Use the first level, coarse, for when the knife is blunt, and the second level, fine, for fine sharpening following on from the first level or for regular resharpening of the blade. The ceramic slats grind the blade and the knife regains its original sharpness.

I am very happy that my old knife sharpener broke otherwise I would never have discovered this great product. Now even my old knives that never seemed to get sharp with my old sharpener, are now sharp.

This is an outstanding sharpener. It brings blades to razor sharpness easily and safely. It grinds at a 100% consistent angle which ensures that every time you glide your blade through it sharpens cumulatively. In my view safer and easier to use than a sharpening steel and, unless you are quite practised with your steel, probably better results.

In comparison to the sharpening rod this item affords security in terms of safety provided used on a level surface. It is simple to use and highly effective even on serrated knives.

Better than the rest I've tried

This sharpener is simple to use and produces a smooth symmetrical edge that is perfect for a standard chef's knife. I was even able to rescue an old knife that had been ruined by a professional knife maker who tried to sharpen it for me. It is important to note that you don't need to use heavy pressure on the knife, a light hand will give the best result.
Unfortunately, the cutting angle is, I think, a little greater than 30 degrees which is kind of OK for my Wusthof boning knife, though it really needs to be more acute. However, I doubt the blade is sufficiently resilient to sharpen to a finer edge with a hand-held sharpener and it probably requires a laser cut.
Overall, if you have good knives, it is excellent value for money. Read more

I am really pleased with the Wusthof knife sharpener. It works a little more gently than I had anticipated (maybe because my knives were more blunt than I thought). I have used the sharpen routine a couple of times before being happy with the result but I am getting a lovely clean, sharp cut now. I am definitely pleased with my choice of knife sharpener.

Would definitely recommend this product to anyone. All our knives went from being blunt to super sharp within minutes and it is very easy to use. One of the things I was looking for was a universal sharpener that was suitable for sharpening any brand of knife and this one is it!

I bought this item along with the Wusthof Sharpening Steel (the one with Ribbed Handle, measuring 26cm) as I wanted a honing blade made of steel, to be used in combination with the diamond & ceramic fitted on the sharpener (each one has its own purpose). This sharpener is of solid conception and, if used appropriately, will return any knife to perfect sharpness (videos online available to use it correctly; avoid excessive pressure and learn when to use the diamond or the ceramic). I am glad I chose to buy this sharpener and it has instantly become one of my favorite tools in the kitchen. Read more

Solid as a rock, easy to use and sharpens like a dream! I sharpened all my knives the moment I unpacked it! Old knives that I thought were beyond help sharpened up within seconds. It's a must have for every kitchen!

I can't believe how well this works. I have used a sharpening kit from another brand before and that was SO MUCH work compared to the Wursthof! My knives were very blunt - they struggled to slice through anything. It took about 15mins of very easy work to get 5 knives sharp enough to slice tomato without any pressure on the knife! Now a quick 10 strokes once a week and they stay in tip-top shape. I've had other reputable sharpeners, but they definitely weren't as nice to use as this one. Read more

Disappointing product

Wusthof is a good knife brand, but this knife sharpener does not seem to sharpen the knives. I have watched a number of educational videos and followed the instructions. It just does not work.
I would not recommend this product to a friend.

This didnt really get the knives very sharp, replaced it with a Warthog V Sharp Classic ll knife blade sharpener which is sensational and also looks very steam punk.

This handy and robust knife sharpener is great. Amazingly easy to use and makes vegetable prep an absolute pleasure.
I do have the Wusthof (rubber?) chopping mat as well, as the knives are now so sharp that I worry about what I'm chopping into...
I haven't regretted this purchase for a millisecond. It's great.

So I bought a yuppie colleague a wedding gift from this site. The site is very expensive and full of yuppie stuff. The gift cost so much I received a R150 voucher. Being the expensive site that it is, even with the voucher you can almost buy the same thing for similar elsewhere. So I chose some knife sharpener, as used by yuppies worldwide who idolize kitchen tools, appliances and cooking shows. Look, it does sharpen, but its no big deal. Its just a run-of-the-mill grinding effect, and barely worth the price. You can buy the same thing for much less at builders warehouse. The added benefit would be builders will not irritate you with a dozen follow-up e-mails about your shopping experience. I think yuppiechef must be in cape town. Read more
