Squid pro quo - my gratitude for any advice on Squid ink!

Has anyone used squid ink in their culinary delights? I am wanting to know if it has any flavour, or is it merely used to add colour to a meal? Also, what sort of dishes would it be best used in? And... does it temporarily stain one's teeth - don't want to look like a bridge troll when sharing a meal with someone special!

Hi Jacyn

There will be a slight flavour but really nothing to worry about as it will not be overpowering. I've not worked with it myself but it seems the best options are to try your hand at making a risotto or a lovely home made pasta! Remember to wear some gloves as the ink will stain your hands but luckily bridge trolling will not happen :)

There is a flavour, but not something that is overpowering. It will stain your fingers while working with it, but not your teeth. I have used it to make risotto and squid ink pasta. Have fun :)

Thanks Tandy and Louise, much appreciated. Will definitely try the risotto first... I still need to break in my pasta maker, so baby steps when i finally get there!
