Thanks!

I've had both options and I would never do a gas oven again as it's difficult to control temperatures and always seemed to take much longer than electric. The ideal in my opinion is the gas stove with electric oven combination...the best of both.

Hi Mark

I think it's less about one being better than the other, and more about which one suits your needs best. Both have pros and cons, but perhaps one may work better than the other for you?

Gas ovens usually heat up quicker than electric ovens, and they produce a more moist heated environment, which helps to keep moisture in your baked goods.

Electrical ovens tend to maintain a more stable temperature allowing for even cooking or baking, and produce a drier heat which is good for effective grilling.

Having said that, I use an electrical oven and it works for me - I bake a lot and haven't had many issues with dry results.

Hope this helps!

Take care,
Angela

Gas or electric – what's the hottest option?

Gas oven

Doesn't dry out food as much as electric, so ideal for roasts, casseroles and heavy cakes that require moisture. Although new generation electric ovens, such as combination steam convection types, will give them a run for their money.
Hotter at the top and cooler at the bottom, so foods need to be rotated for even cooking and browning.
Unless it has an internal grill, there is no direct heat from the top so it won't be as good for browning or crisping.
Doesn't distribute the heat as evenly as electric unless it has a fan.
If it has electronic controls or an electric grill you'll need an electrical outlet nearby.
There isn't as much choice among brands for gas ovens.
Electric oven

The most common type – over 80% of ovens are electric.
Most are multifunction, so you can do more with a variety of cooking modes. You can use a combination of top, bottom and grill plus fan to optimise different cooking, baking and grilling needs. U may choose here http://rangestoreoutlet.com/20-gas-ranges goodone with discount.

Hi,

Gas and Electrical ovens has its pros and cons. Electric oven heats up faster than gas oven. But, the cooked food seems to taste better in gas oven than the electric one.

Hello culinary gods,

My husband and I bought a house and need to buy an oven. In our last home, we had a gas range, and where we currently are, we have an electric range.

I definitely prefer the gas stove top to an electric one, but I can't find any information about the pros/cons of the two oven types. Since gas combusts to create water, I can imagine that an electric oven is preferable when making, say, meringues, but Consumer Reports says that duel fuel units are not worth the increased cost.

So what do you think? Which type of oven is better for baking and cooking? What things should I take into consideration when making my decision?

Thank you very much for your insight.
