  About Whirley-Pop

  The makers of the Whirley-Pop have been growing and popping popcorn on their Wabash Valley family farm for over 30 years — these folks know popcorn. They started by growing popcorn for movie theatres, ball parks, and other popcorn distributors and eventually opened their own popcorn processing factory.

  Before long they progressed into selling gourmet popcorn directly to consumers, but soon realised their customers didn't have a way to pop popcorn like commercial poppers could. And so the Original Whirley-Pop was born. And it's still made in their barn in Monon, Indiana to this day.

  Cleaning:

  • Lid features quick-release clips for easy removal
  • Simply wipe parts down with paper towel and store for next use
  • If necessary, hand-wash with warm, soapy water using a grease-cutting liquid dish soap
  • Popper is not dishwasher safe

  First time use:

  1. Wash the pot fresh out the box
  2. Pour a tablespoon of vegetable oil into the pan
  3. Tilt and roll the pan with your wrist to coat the bottom and sides
  4. Heat for 20 seconds or until the oil is hot (DO NOT leave the pot unattended)
  5. Remove from heat and allow to cool
  6. Wipe out with a paper towel
  7. Check to make sure your lid is centred in your pot
  8. Ensure all 3 lid clips are wrapped tightly around the top lip of the pot
  9. You are ready to pop!

  Popping instructions:

  1. Pour your ingredients in the popper according to the options below:
     • Full batch:
       • 1/2 cup of popcorn
       • 1-3 Tbsp of oil
     • Partial batch:
       • 1 Tbsp of popcorn
       • 1 Tbsp of oil
  2. Place popper with added ingredients on the burner and set the heat to medium to medium-high, depending on the stove
  3. Do not preheat your burner
  4. Hold the wooden handle with one hand, and slowly crank with the other. Continue stirring like this through the entire process (about 3 minutes) until you only hear an occasional pop or until the crank becomes somewhat difficult to turn. DO NOT force the crank. Remove from heat immediately
  5. Open the lid flap, and pour your popped corn into a serving bowl. Let stand a minute or two to maximise crispiness. Add butter, salt or your favourite seasoning, and enjoy!

  Safety dos and don'ts:

  Always:

  • Read and follow the instructions
  • Consult your manufacturer's stovetop manual for aluminium use on a glass top surface
  • Hand wash the pot, and make sure that it is thoroughly dry before using
  • Close the popper's lid and ensure the lid is attached securely before popping corn
  • Stir immediately and continuously after placing the popper on the stove
  • Remove popper from the heat when popping slows or the crank becomes difficult to turn
  • Immediately turn off the heat when finished popping
  • When emptying the popper, hold the wooden handle and open the lid by holding the wooden knob
  • Only add seasonings after the corn is popped and has been removed from the popper

  Never:

  • Never place in a dishwasher
  • Never place an empty popper on a heated stove (the aluminium can melt)
  • Never use the popper without oil
  • Never pop using butter or vegetable spray
  • Never preheat the pot or the oil
  • Never force the crank when the popper is full
  • Never shake the popper. Shaking may cause scratching on glass top surfaces
  • Never put your face near a pan that contains hot oil
  • Never add cheese or other milk based seasonings to the popper
  • Never use water or liquid to extinguish an oil fire. The safest method is to use a fire extinguisher specifically approved for oil fires
  • Never clean the popper with oven cleaner
  • Never place the popper in the microwave
  • Never let children use the popper unsupervised
  • Never leave the popper unattended while popping
  • Never use the popper to cook anything other than popcorn
