Welcome to the world of Mervyn Gers, where each tableware item is individually handmade in their Cape Town studio using their own clay, designs and glazes. Clay is mixed with finely milled ceramic, to create a rougher texture, which is then shaped and fired at up to 1220°C to create strong, long-lasting stoneware. These individually handcrafted glazed dinner plates have a beautifully organic look and are perfect for serving main courses.

We bought the Mervyn Gers side plates in duck egg blue and wanted to supplement these by adding suitable dinner plates. We chose white in the same range so that we wouldn't land up with a sea of blue on our table. Firstly, the white glaze lacks the lovely ostrich eggshell finish of the duck egg blue glaze. I am a skeptic when it comes to purchasing products that other people have given "not so good" reviews, but I loved the look of these dinner plates regardless and how happy I am that I went with my gut! I don't think it is too heavy like a few reviews said - I think it is perfect, looks great and feels like good old fashion quality - I love them!

I bought 4 plates and 4 large bowls, they look and feel gorgeous but they weigh a ton, my kitchen shelf is bowing with just these 8 items.

Absolutely exquisite. Love the unique shape and colours of each of these handmade plates.

The food looks so beautiful on them and despite some of the reviews I definitely did not find them too heavy, they just feel solid and well made.
