A quality machine, yes a bit pricey but hopefully worth paying that much more and getting a machine that will last.

After months of lusting after this bad boy we finally clicked the order button. And I'm glad we did - we're in ice-cream up to our ears.

The machine is incredibly simple to use, quick and easy to clean (and if you're as messy as I am in the kitchen then this is a very big plus).

What we didn't anticipate is that if you're an ice-cream purist it takes quite a lot of trial and error to get the recipe and freezing time right (it took us about 12 batches to get the knack of it) but hang in there - it's worth it when you do.

Also this machine doesn't like to be moved so make sure you have a spot in the kitchen where it can live permanently. Read more

Efficient!

Sleek and quite industrial looking. It was a little bigger than I expected but I love the fact that it can be used continuously without having to refreeze after every batch like most other ice cream makers.

A silky smooth kitchen dream

It may seem pricey in Rand terms but it is worth every cent. After you've cooled the icecream custard in the fridge, you switch on the Magimix's chiller to cool the first of the containers. Pour in the mixture, insert the paddle, cover with the lid, press the churning button, set the timer, and it sets to work.

I tend to go for egg-rich Italian creama type gelato (250gms double cream, 125gms pouring cream [18% fat], pinch salt, flavouring - anything from Amaretto (1/3 cup) to vanilla pod, to 70% cocoa chocolate etc etc, and separately 4 egg yolks, reduced sugar as I tend to prefer gelato not too sweet - the alcohol lowers the freezing point of the gelato) and within 20 minutes the churning is complete and the gelato can be scooped out into a container (preferably stainless steel or glass, covered with baking or wax paper) and into the freezer.

The Magimix is then ready for the next load of creamy mix. It's incredibly easy to clean. It's quite a heavy object and mustn't be tilted so let it occupy pride of place in the corner next to the bread-making machine. Read more

Seriously the best.

Playing with recipes is the best. From the plain but moreish vanilla to the weird and wonderful natural full cream yogurt, condensed milk and whisky.
Soft, smooth delicious ice cream every time.

It makes me smile. Isn't that the point...

Large ice-cream maker

Tested at Yuppiechef Review Club. Lots of good features, such as it's own timer, a built in freezer unit and very easy to use. But I found that the ice-cream wasn't as good, in consistency, as the cheaper product we compared it to.

Love this product

Easy to use. Makes very creamy ice cream. The mixture has to be cold throughout before placing it in the machine, that insures it to be creamy. I have made very nice sugar-free, low carb ice cream that I feel is similar quality (if not nicer) than store bought ice cream.

What an amazing machine! So easy to set up and operate and I've just produced my first batch of completely delicious mango ice cream! Yay! Now all I need is an ice cream recipe book to see what I SHOULD be putting in it....
It took me a long while of deliberating before ordering... Very pricey... But I would definitely recommend it. :-)

Aww this machine is amazing! I made one batch of vanilla frozen yogurt and one batch chocolate ice cream and the texture on both of them were absolutely perfect!
My first machine was a from another brand, and I still use it and love it but you can't compare the quality of ice cream they make. You can definitely see the difference between a R1000 machine and a R10 000 machine. This is a lot of money for a kitchen appliance so make sure you're going to put it to good use!

First delivery arrived with no instructions book and an international plug. Took over a month to recover it and replace with another. Plug is still an issue despite them saying it’s an international fitting. We’ve been told to find another power cable ... so we’ve ordered online and continue to wait. Missed Christmas and making holiday ice cream for children dairy free and sugar free. Really disappointed. Read more

I absolutely love my Magimix Gelato Expert. It's compact, sleek and a beautiful design. It's also solid and sturdy. But it's also awesome to use. The instruction manual lays everything out well. I find it simple and practical. I am getting excellent quality gelato out of this machine. The quantity it makes is just perfect.

A few tips that I picked up:
Chill the custard for at least 8 hours - the end product is smoother.
