Stoneware Round Bread Baking Cloche

I got this as a gift and I am very pleased with it. The reason for not giving 5 stars is that it comes with very poor instructions. Fortunately the internet came to the rescue. I preheat the cloche with the oven (230 - 250 degrees C) and line it with baking paper. Take the lid off for last 10 minutes of the bake. It produces beautifully crisp sourdough loaves without having to introduce extra steam. I prefer this to cast iron as it is much lighter and easier to get in and out of the oven. Read more

I have now used the cloche three times and it has produced excellent sourdough bread each time. The crust is amazing and by trapping the steam inside the oven spring is good too. It does develop stains as you bake with it - resist the temptation to wash it!

I bake sourdough bread. This cloche is really handy, and I recommend it for bakers. The one negative is that it is very awkward to handle when hot, as it doesn't have handles on the bottom part.
