The max amount of briquettes, 500g, is massively understated. I estimate that at least 1.25 kg might be required.
500g + approx another 300g was just enough to grill a single 440g rump steak, even then it took about 12 mins to get to 50 degrees C. Not good enough! I shall try again but with many more briquettes. Then I will try it with acacia charcoal from Namibia. The Japanese charcoal is ridiculously expensive. Read more

I must be the only South African who never braais with wood or charcoal, only gas. As a youth, I had too many frustrating experiences with a real fire braai.

That said the taste from a real fire is much better, incomparable to gas. So when I saw this small barbecue suitable for only the two of us I thought I’d try again and I am glad I did.

First attempt only charcoal proved unsuccessful. I thought here we go again. Second attempt I used half an eco firelighter from Woolies. Voila! Within ten minutes or less excellent coals.

I could have braaied for an hour and it cleaned up very easily, looks stylish and simple to use even for me.

This is one of our best buys ever. We use it all the time for braai's on the beach and when we are camping. It is not heavy to carry, cleverly made with a cutting board and a compartment for your meat, and it cooks our meat perfectly!

I'd highly recommend this portable braai. It’s the perfect size, convenient to use and amazing how the handles stay cool. My family loves this braai and we’ve stopped using our big Weber.

For those who are worried that the heat from the braai might damage their tabletop, unless you place it in direct sunlight, your tabletop will stay cool and dry with no residual heat.
